The pagodas may be Kutz's most beloved outdoor spaces, guarded from the sun and open to the lake and to dreams. I remember when this tree was planted.

The most recognizable and ambitious part of the "new Kutz," the Bet Am housed performances and programs and services and dancing. And air conditioning.

These stairs, climbing over the back entrance to the kitchen and lobby, were nearly invisible to most people.

How many people walked up these steps to the lobby and dining room?

Off in a corner and often invisible behind wild foliage, this "Chock Full of Nuts" structure predates Kutz Camp's purchase of the property. My siblings and I played in here when we were children.

Abandoned in the dining room are all manner of artifacts.

The dining room itself sits empty, the bright winter light almost blinding.

Once lit with wagon-wheel fixtures and adorned by photos on its walls, this lobby served as Kutz's central meeting point.

The "new Kutz" from 2002 consisted of the Bet Am, seen here practically looking back up at the camera, and a multi-room facility facing it, which included a brand new dance studio.

As the studio was nearing completion — it featured a floating floor that made dancing easier but also effectively lowered the ceiling — I overheard talk of ceiling fans! Fortunately I was able to nix the idea.

I almost couldn't believe the beauty of these winter shadows encroaching on (depending on the year) "Torah Corps," "TC" or "The TC's."

Who would ever have dreamed that two willow trees, each planted by program participants, would cast such huge shadows? The metaphor is as beautiful as it is trite.
