Safari in South Africa - August, 2015
We got a report of a pride of lions making their way slowly toward a road. Would they reach us? We hoped so! In the end, they stopped by the river. As much as I wanted another close up of a lion, I still love this shot from afar.

I really didn't think I'd like the zebras this much, but this is one of my favorite shots from my trip.

This is one of my favorite images. We found this cat just after sunset as she was resting, completely at peace with her world. (Because it was dark, I had to shoot at 1/13sec. The fantastic image stabilization on my Canon lens helped me get the shot.)

Our guide spotted this gorgeous bird after sunset. We didn't want to shine a light at it, and I didn't have a tripod, but I still took a chance with a hand-held shot at 1/8sec (even though I was shooting at 400mm). I wouldn't call the picture sharp, but it does give a sense of the owl's camouflage abilities. And, wow, those eyes!

I love these. Apparently the birds build thjem "upside down" so the snakes can't get in.

We came across this guy as we rounded a hairpin turn. (How such a large animal navigated such a tight spot I don't know.) On one hand, it's just an elephant by the side of the road. On the other hand, it's an elephant by the side of the road!
